What To Ask Your Auto Service Shop

Essential Repair Shop Questions

When your commercial truck needs repairs, choosing the right service shop can make all the difference. It is important to consider a variety of criteria when deciding the service and location for your next repair. Here at Peach State Truck Centers, we prioritize the utmost quality and service when it comes to repairs and customer satisfaction. To ensure you receive the best care and service, here are some crucial questions to ask your repair shop and how Peach State addresses these concerns.

Are Your Mechanics Certified?

Why It Matters: When it comes to heavy-duty and commercial vehicle repairs, experience and skill specialization is critical. Certified mechanics have undergone rigorous training and testing in particular areas to become specialized in certain vehicle types and brands. These certifications demonstrate and ensure that each mechanic has the knowledge and skills required to handle complex repairs.

Here At Peach State: We prioritize training above all else. In fact, in 2024 we have spent over $1 million in training for our technicians. Through our in-house training program with four certified trainers and hundreds of thousands of dollars in training aids, we provide instruction on Freightliner, Western Star, Detroit, Cummins, and Ford products. All of our technicians receive this training while working for a Peach State Truck Centers location.

Do You Have a Warranty Policy? For Repairs & Replacement Parts?

Why It Matters: It is important to know if your repair shop has a warranty policy and the extent to which it covers. In the occurrence that an issue arises in the future, it is critical that you know if your recent repairs or parts used are covered under a warranty to ensure that you are protected and can receive additional service if needed. These warranties can vary depending on the type of products or service offered and the timeframe in which the warranty lasts.

Here At Peach State: We stand behind all manufacturer-published warranties. Our service representatives at our locations have the expertise and training to answer all your questions about warranties.

What Types of Vehicles Do You Offer Service For?

Why It Matters: Not all repair shops can service every vehicle type, especially in specialized heavy-duty or commercial vehicles. It is important to ask which types of vehicles the repair shop has worked on in the past and which vehicles they specialize in to ensure you are receiving adequate service for your specific needs.

Here At Peach State: We offer service on some of the top commercial vehicle brands, including Freightliner, Western Star, Ford, Thomas Built Bus, and Freightliner Custom Chassis, among others. We also have the capability to work on major engine brands like Detroit and Cummins.

Can You Provide a Written Statement on the Cost/Service?

Why It Matters: While we as consumers want to believe that repair shops only service what is necessary, in many scenarios this is not always the case. For many that aren’t educated in common services and prices, repair shops can cut corners to tack on additional services and rates that are not essential to your requests. A written estimate prevents this practice by avoiding surprises and helping you understand what to expect financially and for your vehicle.

Here At Peach State: Our policy is to diagnose the customer complaint and provide a written estimate for the specific failures needed to repair, so our customers know exactly what work will be done on their vehicle.

How Long Do Services Take?

Why It Matters: Service downtime can be costly for you and your business, so understanding the expected timeframe for your repair is crucial. While service time can vary greatly depending on the extent of your situation, it is important to understand how long this process can take to take any preventative measures to ensure this downtime does not cost you or your business.

Here At Peach State:  We strive to diagnose every vehicle issue in 2 hours. Once everything involved in the repair is known, we set a realistic estimated time of completion and stick to it.

Do You Offer Mobile Mechanic Options?

Why It Matters: It is critical to understand the full range of services that may be available to you through your repair shop. Mobile services can drastically save time, money, and hassle by bringing the repairs to you. While this may vary depending on the type of repair and repair shop policies, understanding the full extent of services provided to you could save you from an inconvenient roadside incident.

Here At Peach State: We have mobile service for current customer repairs, but we do not offer roadside repairs. We provide mobile service specifically for current customer repairs, allowing us to conveniently address issues without you needing to visit the shop. However, please note that we do not offer roadside repair services, so any emergency or breakdown situations will need to be handled by a roadside assistance provider.

Will You File My Insurance Claims For Me?

Why It Matters: Knowing if your auto body shop will file insurance claims for you is crucial because it can save you time and hassle during the repair process. It ensures that the shop is experienced in dealing with insurance companies, which can help streamline the approval and payment processes. Additionally, it provides peace of mind that the paperwork will be handled correctly, avoiding potential delays in getting your vehicle back on the road.

Here At Peach State: We do an estimate repair and send it to the customer’s insurance provider for their approval. We take care of the entire insurance process for you by providing a detailed repair estimate and sending it directly to your insurance provider for their approval. This service not only simplifies the repair process but also ensures that everything is handled efficiently, so you can focus on getting back on the road as quickly as possible.
