The New 5th Edition Freightliner Cascadia

The new 5th Edition Freightliner Cascadia sets a new standard for modern trucking by combining innovative design, advanced safety features, intelligent connectivity, and enhanced efficiency. Its streamlined exterior and comfortable interior are built for both performance and driver well-being. Smart safety systems and real-time data tools help keep operations running smoothly and securely. With a focus on reducing fuel consumption and emissions, the Cascadia offers a more sustainable and cost-effective solution for today’s fleets. Learn how this next-generation model is designed to meet the evolving needs of drivers and businesses alike.

Redefined Design

The fifth-generation Freightliner Cascadia blends aerodynamic efficiency with a modern, comfortable interior. With a sleek exterior that enhances airflow and customizable interior features for driver comfort, it perfectly balances style, functionality, and performance.

  • Exterior: The 5th generation Freightliner Cascadia showcases an elevated and redesigned vehicle exterior, crafted for aerodynamic advancements. This new sleek design reduces drag, enhances airflow, and improves the vehicle’s overall fuel economy. New additions include redesigned hood-mounted attachments, a Max Aero Bumper, and A-pillar deflectors. The vehicle’s updated grille not only contributes to a sleek and durable design but also optimizes engine cooling while in use. With these key features, the Cascadia provides fleet efficiency with a refined look, making it the standout choice for both performance and appearance.
  • Interior: The new Freightliner Cascadia features a state-of-the-art interior, combining functionality and driver experience to ensure each driver is comfortable and safe while operating the vehicle. Each vehicle’s interior comes with customizable options and configurations with seat upholstery options, interactive display touchscreens, and newly designed HVAC systems. In addition, the 5th edition features the industry’s first ladder located in the driver’s quarters for easy access to a top sleeper compartment.

Enhanced Safety

The new Freightliner Cascadia prioritizes driver and road safety with intelligent braking, advanced visibility systems, and enhanced driver assistance technology. From smart cameras and sensors to automated safety responses, every feature works together to reduce risks, prevent accidents, and promote safer driving conditions, no matter the environment. Standout safety features include:

MirrorCam System: With the use of Stoneridge’s MirrorEye Technology, Freightliners MirrorCam system utilizes a system of monitors and cameras to provide increased visibility and safety for the driver. Drivers can experience increased visibility for the sides of their vehicle, further minimizing safety risks, driver fatigue, and contributing to great driver safety.

Intelligent Braking Control System: This enhanced system combines a pneumatic backup system with brake-by-wire technology-infused services brakes. This combination allows for more controlled and smoother braking. In addition, comfort braking provides equal brake force distribution with deceleration, allowing for equal lining wear. Furthermore, a newly infused electronic park brake system mitigates roll-away incidents by automatically engaging if the ignition is keyed off and the driver leaves the seat for 3 seconds or if the driver’s door remains open at 2 miles per hour or less.

LED Headlights: The newly enhanced Dual STag Intelligent LED Headlights provide drivers with enhanced visibility and safety under any condition. Newly improved, these headlights provide 30% greater visibility when compared to its previous mode. In addition, these lights are built tough for any weather condition, melting ice in cold environments and clearing condensation in a matter of minutes.

Detroit Assurance Suite of Safety Systems:

Active Brake Assist 6: ABA6 brings together a suite of new software, cameras, and multi-range radars to enhance the variety of conditions and scenarios this new system is able to react to. Through this culmination, ABA6 is able to provide full braking reactions with vehicles, bicyclists, as well as stationary and moving pedestrians. In addition, ABA6 can recognize braking scenarios in multi and curved lanes, angled vehicles, and object identification.

Side Guard Assist 2: This new system alerts drivers through audible and visual warnings of pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles in driver and passenger blind spots. In addition, alerts are sent in the case of lane changes and vehicle turns, further enhancing driver and road safety.

Active Side Guard Assist: To supplement the Side Guard Assist 2 system, this active assist applies the braking system in the event a vehicle does not take corrective action to address passenger side alerts at speeds less than 12 mph. This enhanced technology helps mitigate and reduce accidents caused by right turns onto moving pedestrians and cyclists.

Active Lane Assist 2: This new system introduces an all-new Lane Change Assist feature. This feature intentionally corrects a vehicle lane presence in the occurrence of the vehicle veering into an occupied lane to the left or right at speeds greater than 37 mph, even if the turn signal is engaged. Furthermore, this system showcases the all-new Attentive Driver Protection feature, bringing a vehicle to a complete stop in its lane in the event a driver is unable to effectively operate the vehicle.

Front Guard Alert: Utilizing four short-distance radars, the driver is alerted using visual and audible cues of passing bicyclists or pedestrians if the vehicle begins to move from its stationary position. This further enhances the driver’s awareness of their surroundings and increases overall road safety.

Fleet Intelligence

The new Freightliner Cascadia enhances fleet management with real-time data, remote updates, and safety monitoring. With seamless connectivity and instant insights, fleets can maintain efficiency, ensure safety, and stay on the move without interruption. Key features include:

  • Real-Time Information: Detroit Connect Portal grants enhanced control and visibility over your fleet with real-time data feeds and information from selected vehicles.
  • Enhanced Safety: Real-time data displays vehicle health and safety system parameters, allowing drivers and individuals to be notified of the occurrence of a safety breach.
  • Optimized Fleet Efficiency: Cellular connection and over-the-air programming allow fleets to stay connected through remote updates and parameter changes, allowing your business to continue moving even while on the road.

Driving Efficiency

The new Freightliner Cascadia is built for peak efficiency, combining advanced aerodynamics, smart HVAC technology, and powerful engine options. With a focus on reducing fuel consumption, emissions, and costs, it offers a streamlined solution for enhanced performance and sustainability. Notable features include:

  • Enhanced Design: With efficiency in mind, the new Cascadia body design features wheel well closeouts, tighter hood seals, and a Max Aero Bumper to reduce drag, improve airflow, and overall boost driving efficiency.
  • Improved HVAC: The new Cascadia model HVAC system provides both warm and cool air while the main engine is turned off. California Air Resources Board-certified and FET-exempt, this system is also compatible with solar panels and inverters, offering operational and cost advantages when compared to traditional APUs.
  • Detroit Components: Peak vehicle power and efficiency are achieved through the most efficient Detroit DD13® and DD15® engines paired with the state-of-the-art Detroit DT12® transmissions and axles.
  • Decreased Emissions & Cost: With fuel efficiency in mind, the Cascadia offers a Natural Gas model. Powered by the Cummins X15N, this model produces near-zero emissions, offering optimal fuel efficiency and a cheaper alternative to traditional diesel fuel.
